Help The Rotary Club Help Kids Worldwide – Buy a Cash Calendar

From John Stransky:

My Rotary Club is part of a world wide service organization that among many other things is working to complete the eradication of polio world wide. Locally, we are supporting many charities and agencies, particularly those helping kids. Internationally, our club is helping kids without hope in the Philippines, India and Kenya.

One of the vehicles we use to raise funds is our annual cash calendar. It’s all local artists who’ve painted local landscapes. It’s a nice piece that supports a lot of great work, the local arts community and also makes a great gift, not to mention you can win a little bit of cash. I’ve attached a copy of the back cover to give you a sense of what it looks like.

I’m glad to get them to you.

The Magic Run

If only everyone could experience runs such as mine this very amazing December morning! The moon full of life, and I with it. The hypnotic tapping of my steps as I glide my way. This is day can only get better.

How great to be a runner, get out an run, it’s an amazing day….

Collingwood Google Satellite

Has anyone noticed that on Google Earth or Google maps that Collingwood was photographed from space on a day where the whole centre of town was blotted out by a giant cloud? Can we ask for a retake? Also why is it high resolution all the way to the bottom of the mountain but then crap resolution for The Blue Mountains?

I added a satellite image of Collingwood widget to the left sidebar under the weather thing.

New gallery for Collingwood Half Marathon also added.

Running Routes page added

See the top menu for the Running Routes menu item. When clicked it opens a page of running routes that we like mapped on the MapMyRun site. I have embedded them directly in our site so that you don’t need to go to mapmyrun.com to see them! Our site draws the data directly from mapmyrun.com so any changes on that site will show up on ours automatically…. Nick B.

2nd route has been added to the routes page.

Book Review – Born to Run

So I guess this is the first unofficial book review for the Post Runners. Thanks to Carol Cooley and her insistence that I read this wonderful book called “Born to Run” I have had a major epiphany! Is impossible to put down once you get into the story. It provides entertaining anecdotes of running through the Mexican canyons to meet and run with the “Tarahumara” (running people) who live in caves cut into the side of cliffs and eat corn, chia, and whatever else they find yet are the best ultra-marathoners on the planet. Add to this entertainment a huge amount of research on how we run, and why we do it from a historical and anthropological standpoint. I know I found some interesting answers to how to run without injuries. I’m back to running for joy like a kid again! Did you know that Nike is an evil empire?

Enough rhetoric! Read the book and make your own revelations. Available at the L.E. Shore library in Thornbury, or if you want to buy it:

Comment: Nick Brindisi – I would like to personally thank Boston Mike McCluskey whose support at the finish line was well appreciated! (And the great photos) I’m sure your brother Peter also appreciated you being there. I can’t thank my wife Susan enough for holding me up physically at the finish so I didn’t collapse. Marathon running is the worst spectator sport there is – hours of boredom punctuated by a couple of minutes of free hot dogs and shared glory.
